FAQs

General

Are you experiencing a strong or burning sensation with Cliradex?

We want to reassure you there is nothing wrong with the product. Cliradex typically has a fresh, cooling sensation. If you are experiencing a “burning” sensation, this may be because the skin is compromised somehow.  A helpful analogy would be like putting alcohol on a wound.

Here are a few tips if you have sensitive skin:

  1. Avoid using Cliradex right after bathing.  Skin pores may be exfoliated and are more exposed than usual.
  2. Wipe gently with Cliradex.
  3. Avoid direct contact with your eyes.  Keep eyelids gently closed when using Cliradex.

We recommend that during the application:

  1. Close your eyes firmly without squinting too much.
  2. Gently wipe Cliradex across the lid and surrounding skin. Don’t try to press too much on your eyelid skin or into the eye’s corner (caruncle).
  3. Allow Cliradex to air dry briefly (30s) before opening your eyes.

If your results don’t improve, please do not continue using Cliradex, as you may have a skin allergy to essential oils.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@cliradex.com.

Do you do animal testing on any of your products?

No animal testing was conducted. Cliradex was subject to cosmetic safety and efficacy tests before launch. These tests did include Repeated Insult Patch Test (RIPT) on humans and users tested the formulation as a lid wipe. The alternative HETCAM (Hen’s Egg Test Chorioallantoic Membrane) test was performed, so animals did not have to be used.

Is Cliradex available outside of the United States?

Cliradex is available for purchase in Canada on Amazon.ca and through some Canadian eye-care providers.

Is Cliradex available on ebay?

Cliradex towelettes are available online at Cliradex.com and a limited number of online resellers. Currently, Bio-Tissue Inc., the manufacturer of Cliradex®, is not providing it through eBay.

Are your products socially and environmentally responsible?

Yes. Cliradex products come from a sustainable and reliable source. Terpinen-4-ol is produced from all natural sources, derived from Tea Tree Oil.

Is the product food and drug administration approved?

Cliradex face and eyelid cleansers are cosmetic products and therefore does not require FDA approval

Is the product safe?

Yes. Cliradex provides only the highest quality products for use. In a Repeated Insult Patch Test (RIPT) report, Cliradex cleansers demonstrated no sensitization, no allergic reactions and no skin irritation.

Why is ocular hygiene important?

Ocular irritation and blepharitis are known to be primarily caused by bacteria and microbes on the eyelids. These microorganisms release waste and byproducts that are inflammatory and can damage the ocular environment.

Cliradex Towelettes

Why should I use Cliradex instead of Tea Tree Oil?

Tea Tree Oil (TTO) used directly on or around the lid-margin of the eye can be rather irritating. Cliradex contains 4-Terpineol, which is a key component of TTO. It has been clinically proven to be the most important ingredient of TTO that kills Demodex mites, yet is safe for everyday use and won’t dry out the skin.

I’ve been diagnosed with Meibomian Gland Dysfonction (MGD) with Demodex Brevis. How well does Cliradex work on Demodex Brevis if they live inside gland?

4-Terpineol, the most important component in Cliradex has the ability to deep cleanse the skin and aid in the removal of Demodex mites and thoroughly clean off bad oils, crusties and other contaminants from the eyelids.

Will it irritate my eyes?

Cliradex is unlike anything you have experienced in the past. Its cleansing properties naturally calm as soon as it touches your skin. Many people report a cool, soothing, menthol-like sensation upon application, but this feeling generally subsides after about one minute as the formulation dries on your skin and lashes. To help alleviate this sensation, it is recommended that you keep your eyes closed until the sensation dissipates.

What is the chemical composition of Cliradex?

It is mostly 4-Terpineol, derived from Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil is made up of over 15 chemical compounds. The most important of these is 4-Terpineol, a natural cleanser. It does not contain cineole, the component of Tea Tree Oil typically responsible for skin irritation.

How long should I use Cliradex and how many times a day?

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your doctor may have different recommendations. For mild-to-moderate symptoms, we recommend using Cliradex once daily for 6-8 weeks. For moderate-to-severe symptoms, we recommend using Cliradex twice daily for 6-8 weeks.

How close to my lid-margin should I use Cliradex?

You should get as close as possible without getting Cliradex in your eye. However, the most important ingredient in Cliradex is highly permeable, so there is no need to scrub vigorously. Just wipe the upper and lower lid in a gentle sweeping motion. You should also apply on the inside bridge of the nose, along-the-brow line and upper portion of the cheekbone. You can print our application instructions and see the “How to use video” on this website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StDk9nbdg2Y
