Alice T. Epitropoulos, MD, FACS
Dr. Alice T. Epitropoulos is a board certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive and cataract surgery. She has been performing laser vision correction since 1995 with excellent results. She is also offering femtosecond laser cataract surgery with premium lens surgery for her cataract patients. In addition to operating a private practice, Dr. Epitropoulos serves as a clinical assistant professor at the Ohio State University. Currently Dr. Epitropoulos has a patent of a medical device known as the EpiGlare Tester to measure visual disability from oncoming headlights in cataract patients. There was a multicenter clinical trial to validate the device, and recently signed a license agreement to manufacture, market and distribute the device.
Dr. Epitropoulos received her bachelor and medical degrees with Honors from The Ohio State University. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Several of Dr. Epitropoulos’ articles have been published in ophthalmic journals, and she has presented numerous papers at prominent national eye meetings.
Amr Kouchouk, MD
Dr. Amr Kouchouk enjoys providing a variety of surgical services including cataract surgery (including laser-assisted cataract surgery with the Catalys femotsecond laser) with the full spectrum of lens implants (e.g. monofocal, Toric, Tecnis® multifocal, Restor multifocal, Crystalens and Trulign®), refractive surgery (e.g. all-laser PRK/LASIK using the AMO Intralase and Star S4 IR Excimer Laser, Implantable Collamer Lens – ICL), the full spectrum of corneal transplantation (e.g. PKP/DALK, DSAEK), collagen crosslinking, Intacs, ocular surface surgeries (e.g. pterygium, conjunctival tumors), iStent, anterior chamber reconstruction, and IOL repositioning (e.g. iris-fixated and glued-IOLs). In addition to providing excellent surgical care – Dr. Kouchouk is an expert at treating dry eye disease and blepharitis. He has established a Dry Eye Center of Excellence, where he provides the latest dry eye treatments available (Lipiflow, MiBo Theromoflo).
He has published multiple manuscripts in peer-reviewed medical journals, and has given podium talks of his research at national meetings. He is enthusiastic about education, and will continue to be involved with resident education, research, and provide CE lectures for colleagues.
Eric D. Donnenfeld, MD
Dr. Eric D. Donnenfeld is an internationally recognized expert and pioneer in refractive, cornea and cataract surgery and one of the leading refractive and cataract surgeons in the United States. Dr. Donnenfeld has designed and patented six instruments for refractive surgery use. He has authored more than 190 papers on cornea, external disease, cataract and refractive surgery, 500 scientific articles, and 40 books and book chapters on a range of subjects pertaining to corneal transplants, cataract care and laser vision correction. Dr. Donnenfeld is on the editorial board of nine journals and has participated in over 40 FDA studies. He is one of the first 5 people in the world to perform both laser vision correction and laser cataract surgery.
J. James Thimons, OD FAAO
Dr. J. James Thimons is a skilled optometrist who has years of experience in the field. Dr. Thimons is a 1978 graduate of Ohio State University College of Optometry. He completed his hospital residency at the Chillicothe, VA Medical Center in 1979 and then served as Chief, Optometry Service until 1985. He then accepted the position of Center Director at Omni Eye Services, Fairfax, Virginia and served in that role until 1989 when he became Chairman, Department of Clinical Sciences at the State University of New York. While at SUNY he developed The Glaucoma Institute, a clinical research center, and served as its first Director. In 1998, he accepted the position of Executive Director of TLC and served in that role until 2002 when he co- founded Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut. A multidisciplinary referral practice providing secondary and tertiary level care! Dr. Thimons has received numerous awards for his service to the profession and has over 200 hundred publications in Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Cornea and External Disease. He is a nationally and internationally acclaimed Speaker and Educator and an acknowledged leader in ophthalmic clinical education. He serves in professorial appointments at several universities in the US and has been a clinical investigator in over 20 NIH, NEI and Post Release Clinical Trials.
In 1999, he was awarded Optometry’s Top Educator and was selected as one of the Top Ten Clinician’s of the decade. In 2002 he founded the National Glaucoma Society, a NFP with Executive offices in Andover, Massachusetts, that provides educational and clinical development services to primary care clinicians worldwide in the area of glaucoma management. In 2005 he was inducted into the Optometry Hall of Fame and has recently served as President, Connecticut Association of Optometrists. Dr. Thimons was selected as the Top Eye Doctor in Fairfield County in 2013.
James Deom, OD MPH FAAO
Dr. James Deom, known as Jimmy to many, graduated Summa Cum Laude at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry as the first ever dual degree student in PCO’s history with a Master in Public Health. He was the national AOSA president as a student and went on to join the fast paced medically oriented Hazleton and Stroudsburg eye specialists in 2014, alongside Drs. Thomas Kislan and Frank Bucci. Since joining the practice in 2014, he purchased half the practice a year ago and has focused on building his Brain Injury Department as well as a subclinic he founded entitled The Scleral Lens Institute. Since in practice, Dr. Deom has been awarded the young OD of the year by the Northeastern PA Optometric Association as well as the Pennsylvania Optometric Association (POA). He currently serves as Chairman of the Keyperson Committee for the POA as well as the newest and youngest ever board member for the POA. Dr. Deom is a native to the Hazleton Area and lives with his amazing wife Jill , beautiful daughter, Brynn and son, Franklin.
Kimberly K. Friedman, OD, FAAO
Dr. Kimberly K. Friedman is a founding partner of Moorestown Eye Associates, a private group optometric practice in New Jersey, and the Director of The Dry Eye Clinic at Moorestown Eye. She is a past president of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and a Clinical Director for the NJ and National Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program. She served on the advisory board of Women in Optometry Magazine and has appeared in numerous television segments and print media throughout the United States including “The Rachael Ray Show” and multiple Philadelphia area morning programs. Dr. Friedman has received many awards including the NJSOP OD of the Year and Young OD of the Year Awards, VSP’s People First Award, and the Special Olympics National Recognition Award. Larry E. Patterson, MD
Dr. Larry E. Patterson is the medical director of Eye Centers of Tennessee and a nationally known leader in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. Among many firsts, Dr. Patterson was the first physician in East Tennessee to perform Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (ReLACS). Dr. Patterson’s scientific articles and papers have appeared in numerous professional and medical publications. He serves as Chief Medical Editor for Ophthalmology Management and he has given numerous presentations for professional organizations around the world. Dr. Patterson received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee. Michele Pendrak Bush, OD
Dr. Michele Pendrak received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Salus University in Elkins Park, PA in 2008. On her clinical rotations, Dr. Pendrak received the highest clinical honors in hospital and disease management at the Wilkes-Barre Veteran’s Administration Hospital. She has developed vision therapy programs for practicing optometry offices and led her current office, Siepser Laser Eyecare, in developing their Dry Eye Center of Excellence. Timmy A. Kovoor, MD
Dr. Timmy A. Kovoor graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Business Administration. He received his medical degree and completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Kovoor completed his Fellowship in Cornea, External Ocular Diseases, and Refractive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.
Dr. Kovoor is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is currently a partner at Houston Eye Associates, one of the largest multispecialty Ophthalmology Practices in the United States. Daniel Kiernan, MD, FACS
Dr. Daniel Kiernan has recently joined The Eye Associates and is seeing patients in our Sarasota and Venice Offices. Dr. Daniel Kiernan specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. Dr. Kiernan is very experienced in the treatment of macular degeneration, retinal detachments, retinal tears and holes, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, vein occlusions, macular pucker/macular hole, and many other retinal conditions.
Dr. Kiernan graduated from The University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his doctorate in medicine from Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at The University of Chicago Hospital, Pritzker School of Medicine. During his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Kiernan was awarded several accolades for his research in imaging and treatment of retinal diseases, including the Raymond R. Margherio Award from the Retina Society, which he was subsequently elected to by his peers. He continues his interest in investigating both noninvasive and surgical approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of sight-debilitating retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and inherited retinal diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa.

Marguerite McDonald, MD, FACS
Marguerite McDonald, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist. She received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by an internship at Lenox Hill Hospital and ophthalmology residency at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital/Cornell, both in New York City, and a fellowship in corneal and external diseases with Dr. Herbert E. Kaufman at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans. She is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at NYU School of Medicine in Manhattan, and is also an adjunct clinical professor of ophthalmology at Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She has been the principal investigator of three National Eye Institute grants for the study of refractive surgery: radial keratotomy [at the LSU Clinical Center for the Prospective Evaluation of Radial Keratotomy (PERK) study], epikeratophakia, and excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy, as well as numerous industrial grants. In New Orleans, she headed the research team investigating the use of the excimer laser for the correction of optical error, and in 1988 she performed the world’s first excimer laser treatment to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. McDonald has over 1,500 publications in refractive surgery, cornea, ocular infections and allergy, and ocular surface disease (dry eye and blepharitis). Dr. McDonald has received many awards and has been honored with selection to the editorial boards of several publications, including the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Journal of Refractive Surgery.

Ryan G. Smith, MD
After his residency in Ophthalmology at Stanford University, Dr. Smith was recognized as one of the top 10 residents in the country by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Robert H. Gross, MD
Dr. Robert Gross has been in practice in the Phoenix Metro area for 26 years at Cornea & Cataract Consultants of AZ. Dr. Gross serves as Medical Director of the Donor Network of Arizona Eye Bank since 1998 and is very involved in ensuring quality and safety of donor corneal tissue. Dr. Robert Gross received his medical degree from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA and completed his fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center. Tommy Dang, MD
Dr. Tommy (Tam) Dang graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Arts. He then completed his medical school training at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. His internship and ophthalmology residency training was completed at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium as he began his service with the United States Army.
After the completion of his residency, Dr. Dang was stationed at Fort Bliss where he was Chief of Ophthalmology/ Refractive Surgery Center. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he returned to the Central Texas ophthalmology community by joining a private practice in Round Rock. In 2017, Dr. Tommy Dang joined Lake Travis Eye and Laser Center with a medical philosophy aimed towards personalized patient care and outcome-based surgery. Britt J. Parvus, DO
Dr. Britt J. Parvus completed her undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in Nutrition Science. She earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she also completed her residency in ophthalmology and was appointed chief resident. Dr. Parvus was then honored with an ocular oncology fellowship and selected among her peers to serve as chief fellow at Wills Eye Institute. Following her first fellowship, she then completed additional training with a second fellowship in medical retina at Sinclair Retina Associates, P.C.

Austin Bach, DO
Dr. Austin Bach graduated from Yeshiva University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Biology. Dr. Bach continued to graduate school in Boston to study Public Health at Tufts University where he graduated in 2009 with a Master’s in Public Health and a focus in Health Services Management and Policy.
Dr. Bach then moved to South Florida where he attended Nova Southeastern University for his medical degree in Osteopathic Medicine. He then continued on to his internship and ophthalmology residency at Nova Southeastern University through Larkin Community Hospital.

Dustin A Krassin, OD FAAO
Dr. Dustin Krassin practices in Chicago, Illinois and has extensive experience in multi-doctor OD/MD private practices. Dr. Krassin
has worked as a Clinical Instructor at the Illinois Eye Institute and as an adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry for 10 years. He has served as the chief attending at multiple locations as an advanced practice rotation for fourth-year optometry students.

Steven Sorkin, OD FSLS
Dr. Sorkin serves as the Director of Specialty Contact Lens Services at Corneal Associates of New Jersey in Fairfield, New Jersey. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry. He lectures extensively throughout the United States and internationally on contact lenses, dry eyes, ocular therapeutics and corneal diseases. He has a special interest in difficult to fit contact lens patients, such as those with keratoconus and post surgical cases and manages many patients with complex anterior segment conditions. He participates in many contact lens related studies.
Dr. Sorkin currently serves as President of the Essex County Optometric Society and is a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society and is adjunct clinical faculty at Salus University. He was named New Jersey Optometrist of the Year by NJSOP in 2018.
Nick Doyle, OD
Dr. Doyle graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2008.
Nick started in private practice at Highline Vision Center in Aurora almost twelve years ago and has been providing comprehensive refractive, binocular vision and medical care to his patients ever since. He enjoys the challenge of providing unique solutions to his patients, and especially enjoys fitting scleral contact lenses and managing dry eye disease.
He is an active member of the Colorado Optometric Association and is proud to have been the Denver Metro Optometric Society continuing education coordinator, vice president, and finally president in 2016.
In his spare time Nick enjoys spending time with his family, music, working out (not enough), fly-fishing (also not enough), and telling dad jokes (probably too much). He lives in Parker with his wife Meagan, their children Nolan and Maeryn, and two dogs Bowman and Risley.

Dr. Michael Gross is a nationally recognized expert in the field of wellness and prevention. A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Gross went on to become a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. Frank A. Bucci, Jr., MD
Frank A. Bucci, Jr., MD, is an internationally recognized expert in refractive and cataract surgery. He has been a pioneer in refractive surgery, having performed the first RK, AK, PRK and LASIK procedures in Wyoming Valley. He has performed over 9,000 refractive surgeries, in addition to performing almost 28,000 other microsurgical ophthalmic procedures.
Glenn S. Corbin, OD
Glenn S. Corbin, OD enjoys primary eye care practice, with special interest in glaucoma and ocular surface disease management (infection, allergy, inflammation, dry eye). Dr. Corbin earned a B.A. in Biology from Hofstra University in New York and a B.S. in Visual Science and O.D. degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Marian Macsai, MD
Marian Macsai, MD is the Chief of the Division of Ophthalmology for NorthShore University HealthSystem and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She is Chair of the Eye Bank Association of America and has been active in eyebanking at the national level for over 20 years. Dr. Macsai is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery. Her areas of specialties include corneal transplants, refractive surgery, cataracts as well as medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the external eye. Dr. Macsai is a member of the American Ophthalmologic Society with Thesis, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Cornea Society.
Dr. Macsai is nationally recognized as an expert in the fields of corneal surgery and eyebanking and has served on the Food and Drug Administration Ophthalmic Devices Panel as a full member and consultant since 1994. She serves on the executive editorial board of the Journal Cornea, and recently edited the Textbook series Rapid Diagnosis in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Microsurgical Suturing Techniques.
S. Gregory Smith, MD
S. Gregory Smith, MD, is a renowned eye surgeon who is trained in a range of refractive surgical procedures and corneal transplantation. He has been performing eye surgery since the early 1980s and boasts more than 25 years of experience. Throughout the course of his prolific career, Dr. Smith has traveled the world educating other eye surgeons, including more than 500 physicians in Southeast Asia and hundreds of others in Thailand. In addition to helping Bridgeville and Wilmington LASIK patients enhance their vision, Dr. Smith is an attending surgeon at the famed Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, where he has been teaching for more than 20 years.
Dr. Smith was among the first surgeons in the country to be trained in phacoemulsification cataract surgery and was asked to train other eye surgeons who traveled to Minneapolis to learn this new technique under his mentorship. He has brought several new techniques to the United States, including the small-incision technique used to open the lens capsule and implant a foldable lens implant during cataract surgery. In addition, Dr. Smith was invited to travel to Germany and Hungary to study the latest refractive surgery techniques with the world’s leading ophthalmologists.
Dr. Smith is involved in the latest research and ophthalmic advancements. He has served as a consultant to numerous Fortune 500 companies and is frequently asked to lecture at national and international meetings and events. Dr. Smith has authored numerous articles, books and book chapters on subjects pertaining to eye surgery and eye health. He holds 20 patents including one for an implant for glaucoma treatment and another for an accommodating IOL. Dr. Smith has been honored with several awards by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
